Corgi Q703 Turbine Breakdown Truck
The Corgi Turbine Breakdown Truck
The Qualitoys Turbine Truck series by Corgi Toys.
In 1969 Corgi came out with this series specially for very young kids. These models – scale 1:50 – were very sturdy and simple.
They are a fantasy futuristic trucks with turbine engines, hence their name.
The cabs and chassis look the same for all of them, but besides the cabs, the chassis are all different at the rear axle area.
Although seemingly simple in construction, they might not be so easy to disassemble.
Besides the usual rivets there are several crimp connections to attach the axles and front of the cab.
Seven models {exclude eventual trailer (seen by Q701 + Q707 + ??)} are listed: On the blister-boxes stand be reads the name ‘Qualitytoys’ and the type of the specific car along with ‘Made in Gr. Britain by the makers of Corgi Toys’ , and …… ‘safe, rust-proof, heavy die-cast, metal model with pneumatic tyres’.
Of course, all models were available in many varieties of colour combinations.
All in all, a very interesting range, not very collectable as of yet, but when you see them together, they are pretty neat, I think.
They just seem the forgotten child in the Corgi range, but worth another look.
Small boys are likeley to have enjoyed this unusual series of toys. . Corgi in detail...

Dinky 434 Bedford TK Crash Truck
The Dinky Bedford TK Crash Truck
In April 1964, the Meccano magazine announced a new Dinky Bedford TK Crash Truck, numbered 434. At about 43/4 inches, 122mm, long and in the white and green livery of The Rank Organisation`s Motorway Services Division, the magazine advertised the new model at a cost of 7/11. The model sat alongside the metallic red and white `Auto Service` version already available. Many of the components of this model were used by French Dinky in their Berliet GAK dépannage, 589 and 589A, the chassis being clearly identified by the model number and the words `Crash Truck`. Model 434 was withdrawn in 1971.
During 1959, Bedford ceased production of their popular `S` type and replaced the vehicle with the new Bedford TK. Bedford produced two versions of the TK model with either an inline 4 or 6 cylinder petrol or diesel engine. The (4x4) military version became known as the Bedford TM.
The Rank Organisation, with its famous Gongman logo, actually struck by percussionist the late James Blades, largely engaged in film distribution. Its motorway services division managed and operated numerous functions at service areas across Britain. Designed by architects T.P. Bennett and Sons, their iconic service area, situated at Forton, near Lancaster, distinguished itself with a Gerry Anderson, `Thunderbirds` style restaurant and viewing platform at the top of a hexagonal tower. Closed to the public in 1989, `Pennine Tower` became a grade 2 listed building in 2012.Cost 7/11 available in met red/white, white finish at 1:55 scale. Dinky in detail...

Costing 200fr, almost 4/-, and based on the Studebaker pick-up truck, rubber tyres replaced the metal wheels during 1950. French Dinky 589 Berliet GAK Dépannage
The French Dinky Berliet GAK Dépannage Between 1965 and 1971, French dinky produced two recovery vehicles based on the Berliet GAK. When introduced, the Berliet GAK numbered 589, cost was Fr. 9.75 (new francs), about 14/-. The 122mm long truck relied upon the chassis of the British Bedford TK (434) and shared many of its parts. The Berliet GAK, however, was red throughout, with an antenna on some later versions, and flashing light on the cab roof and the white or yellow lettering, 'Dépannage', along each side panel. The earlier version, 589/1 has yellow lettering and 589/2, white. In reality, the Berliet GAK replaced the GBL model and weighed 8.5 tonnes. The truck had a 6-cylinder 4.73 litre Cummins engine, which produced 89 horsepower. The model truck was one of the first French Dinky trucks with plastic windows and then, suspension. The model was withdrawn in 1969.Cost 9.75 Fr available in red finish. French Dinky in detail...

Vilmer 204 Tow Truck
The Vilmer Tow Truck
Vilmer made several different versions of this truck: with or without opening doors, neutral livery, Falck and/or Falck-Zonen livery. Falck {= (private) former brake down (& Fire fighting) Compagny in Denmark, now the name is “Falck”} acquired ownership of their competitor Zonen in January 1963, so this version with both Falck and Falck-Zonen markings must be from around that period.
The original Volvo Titan, L395, was launched in 1950. It was followed by the L495 in 1959 - visually there was minimal difference between them. Vilmer never officially named the truck they based their model on, but knowing how they always strived to be up-to-date, it is rather safe to assume, that a 1963 model would be described as a Volvo L495 Titan.
The model is quite complex with an advanced underside (with intricate suspension), a movable (loose) crane boom just behind the cab, a fully working 'grille / tow spoon' at the rear, and on some models the 2 cabin doors opened. The headlights are clear plastic lenses, while the grille is made of black, semi-pliable plastic. available in red finish at 1:50 scale. Vilmer in detail...
