The Dinky Austin Atlantic Convertible Released in May 1951 at 3/4 as 140A then renumbered 106 in March 1954 priced 2/11. Last appeared in the 1958 catalogue and was deleted in 1959. Of the, at least, twelve colour schemes, the mid-blue version is very uncommon to rare. Shown in the Jan 1954 Meccano magazine for 2/8.

There is a rare dark blue/red interior and hubs variant and a very light sky blue version.

Early models, had no individual boxes and were sold in plain cardboard boxes of six(140a). They had an extension of the casting support of the front axles and no number on the base. The number 106 had an individual yellow box and no number on the base plate; plus a shortened support for the front axles. This is the way to differentiate them.

A rare colour scheme that has the extended support, it is definitely 140a and issued before 1954. Generally these are early models were supplied to the retailer in a box of 6. The late 106 models are typically the light blue/red interior and wheels; the pink/cream interior and wheels; and the black/red interior and wheels, which came in individual boxes.

The Dinky Bentley S2 Coupe Released March 1961 and advertised on the back of that months Meccano Magazine, the UK price was 6/3. In May 1962 this increased to 6/8, and January 1964 it increased again to 6/11. In July 1966, the last year of its production the price was 7/-. This car had "fingertip steering". A scarce variation has red seats, and another issue also scarce was in bronze, ivory seats and dark blue hood. The model was illustrated on the back cover of the September 1961 Meccano Magazine. The French Dinky Simca 8 Cabriolet Through its life The Simca 8 Sports Cabriolet had a few variations in the mold as well as in color and wheels.

It always had white plain rubber tires, cast glossy exterior with open windshield and matte interior with cream steering wheel. Hubs were always ridged and convex. The base plate was black sheet metal with the name and manufacturer embossed in it and the number 24S.The known variations are:

• 1952: Plain cast wheels, thin screen, black body and tan interior.
• 1953-1954: Plain cast wheels, thin screen, black/red or grey/red.
• 1955-1956: Chromed cast wheels, thin screen, black/red or grey/red.
• 1957-1958: Chromed cast wheels, thick screen, black/red. grey/red.
• 1959: Chromed cast wheels, thick screen, light blue-green or cream/red body and red interior.

The French Dinky Peugeot 204 Cabriolet In the second edition of the 1967, French Dinky catalogue, the Peugeot 204 Cabriolet appeared as a new model. Numbered 511, the 1/43 scale model made of Zamak and plastic came in two colours, red or pale blue. The model had opening doors, folding seats, suspension and an opening bonnet, which displayed the replica engine. The 87mm long model had spun hubs and soft black tyres. Costing 9fr. (new francs), about £1, the car was launched in 1968 and withdrawn in 1971.

Secretly known as project D12, Peugeot built the actual 204 Cabriolet at their Sochaux plant. Launched in Paris, on the 23rd April 1965, the 204 became France’s best-selling car between 1969 and 1971. Designed by Battista Pininfarina, the car came in five body styles, had a 4-speed gearbox, with an old fashioned column change. The car offered three different types of powertrain: 1.1L 14 petrol engine; 1.3L diesel 14 between 1968 and 1973; and, a 1.4 L diesel 14, from 1973-1976. The transverse overhead cam engine feed the front wheel drive through a distinctive gearbox and differential. The 204 was the first Peugeot to be fitted with disc-brakes. The French Dinky Renault R4 Sinpar Advertised in the second edition of the 1968 catalogue, French Dinky introduced the Renault R4 Sinpar, 1406, 'Michel Tanguy' later in the same year. At a length of 85mm, the model cost 11Fr. (New Francs), about 22/- or £1, 2/-. The model featured a fold down windscreen with plastic windows, camouflage, an antenna, bonnet camera, steering wheel and instrument panel and two figures, which represent characters from the television series. The model's chassis was not the same as the one used for models 800 and 815, the army and gendarmerie's versions. The model was withdrawn in 1971.

The model's decoration was designed by one of the programme's characters in the second episode. The model was basis on the Renault R4, 4x4. The engineering for the car's 4x4 drive was produced by Sinpar, a division of Renault.

Created by Jean Michel Charlier, Michel Tanguy was the main character in a comic strip, which became the French television series, 'The Knights of Heaven', some seven years after the comic strip first appeared.. The comic strip was illustrated by Albert Uderzo, who also illustrated the Tintin and Asterix books. The music accompanying the television series was sung by French star, Johnny Halliday.

The Michel Tanguy stories were about two friends from a flying school, who were sent to Meknes in Morocco for advanced training. The team of Tanguy and Laverdure flew Dassault Super Mystere (French Dinky 60A) and later, the Mirage III, the model produced by Heller. The television programmes maintained that the squadron once included the World War I, French fighter ace, George Guynemer. Michel Tanguy's character was serious, honest and obedient. The blond, Ernest Laverdure was eccentric, blundering and awkward. He was portrayed as a strong character and the person who customised the Renault 4x4.

In Britain, during, 1966, the 'Knights of Heaven' comic strip appeared in the Lion comic, under the title , 'The Flying Aces'. Michel Tanguy was renamed, Jim Power, and Ernest Laverdure, Terry Madden. The futuristic style adopted had the men described as 'aeronauts'.
