The Budgie Police Car Wolseley 6/80 Police car manufactured in the 1950s and early '60s. Early versions in the more decorative box made by Morestone and stamped underneath 'WOLSELEY SIX-EIGHTY. MADE IN ENGLAND'. Later Budgie versions in the yellow box stamped 'WOLSELEY POLICE CAR. BUDGIE TOYS' and have a white-on-blue Police plate across grille and a neater aerial. Some later Budgies have a similar Police plate across the boot lid too. In 1982 Budgie Seener Ltd resurrected the model but 'modernised' it's image by deleting the bell, loudhailers and the centre bar of the split windscreen, equipping the car instead with roof-mounted spotlights and blue light where the aerial was. The Corgi Commer Police Van Released in July 1963, there are a number of variations of this model with different markings and colours. It was fitted with a battery operated flashing light the flashing controlled by a cam on the front axle. A rare version was marked City Police. Feb 67 saw a revised version with much changed light that was no longer cam driven. This was marked Police and no longer had barred rear windows. The Corgi Porsche Targa Polizei With black interior and roof panel fitted with Whizzwheels. The version numbered Corgi 509-A-3a “Porsche 911s Targa” Police car in White body (incl. bottom), Black roof and Red bonnet, 2 side doors and tailgate plus Dutch ‘Rijkspolitie’ livery [waterslide transfers].

Normally the model has an orange interior. It is less common if the interior is complete black – as in this/my model – with a left hand (driver’s) chromed steering wheel. This version with that black interior is presumably made in max. 175 pieces.

The base plate is white painted metal and is marked ‘Made in Gt. Britain’ * in the centre top (seen from the left door side of this model) , ‘CORGI TOYS’ on the first line of the centre middle, ‘WHIZZWHEELS’ on the second line, ‘Porsche Targa 911s’ on the third line, and ‘Pat. 3396/69’ at the centre bottom.

The Corgi 509 model was originally issued in 06-1970 in white and red. But in 1973, the Corgi Netherlands office suggested a Dutch market version to be produced. Corgi Toys (Gr. Britain) shipped up to an estimated 700 model of the No. 509-A1, most of them with an orange interior – because they thought that should be good because the Dutch royal colour (something different as the National colour, red, white & blue) is orange – without any recalls, for modification in the Netherlands for the local market.

A very small number of Dutch modellers then disassembled these models, painted the doors, rear engine bonnet plus the below nose part of the (front) tailgate of this sportscar in a bright highly-visible orange with a flat finish, as the 1:1 police car. Then they added the different waterslide decals on the orange background(s). Then they reassembled these models and the base plate was fixed using genuine Corgi rivets. After that, it was finally repackaged in the original printed Corgi-Toys-509-A-box (now with the wrong German Polizei version model on it). Approximately 175 of these Dutch die cast models were issued with a black interior plus blue flashlight (is Dutch), around 25 were issued with black interior and red flashlight (is ??). So, 200 pieces of the total estimated 700 models are different and rare in opposite of these with orange interior.

The lettering used on the nose of the vehicle is in black outline font and the lettering on the rear is in black full solid fonts.

The term ‘Porsche Targa 911s’ on this die cast model is formally wrong, because the mark of this (sports)car is ‘Porsche’ the specific type is 911 and as sub-type the ‘s’ (so it becomes a 911s) and the dominant roll bar (most times in chrome) was named (only) by Porsche as ‘Targa’ ! Then the result is/was: “Porsche 911s Targa”. 😊 By civilian versions of this sportscar were ventilation slots in that roll bar, but in the 1:1-police-version were no ventilation slots. Supposed that it was not necessary because these police cars drove most times without the black roof, so the policeman could see more by standing still surveying the traffic.

All these die cast models have a white painted roll bar.

The below summery is much shorter because in other lists there are several version of a Porsche 9xx but not specific this one with that specific roll bar named: 911(s) Targa or Targa 911(s).

The Dinky Police Range Rover The British Land Rover company introduced the Range Rover that would become a very successful utility vehicle. The Range Rover was launched in 1970.

The first-generation Range Rover was produced between 1970 and 1996. It was available only in a 2-door body until 1981.

Various engines could be used such as a 3.5 ltr V8 (3530 cc / 135hp) engine and others. It was also used by Armed Forces and the Police.

This Range Rover was also used by the Dutch National Police ("Rijkspolitie"), with 60 cars between 1973-1984 to patrol at the highways.

Originally the rear window of the 1:1 was as a black frame. Dinky made the first versions without paint at the rear window, so it looked like the real car. It would have made more sense to paint the window surround black, but these were already the days of steady cost-cutting. After version 4 they painted in white. Several different versions in production timeline:

• 1) light blue interior black steering wheel, plastic speedwheels with 6 spokes hubs, radio aerial, jewelled headlights, no paint at rear window

The Dinky Mersey Tunnel Police Van Released September 1955 with a UK price of 2/9. Priced at 3/3 on the February 1961 price list. The model last appeared in the March 1960 catalogue priced at 2/10. Production of 255 had been terminated in the first few months of 1960.

The model depicted is unusual in that no "Police" sign transfer was added to the box above the windscreen. With the box having a 2/9 price, this model was made between September 1955 and April 1957.Cost 2/9 available in red finish. Dinky in detail...

The French Dinky Citroen Currus Police Camionette The 1965 French Dinky catalogue introduced the Citroën Currus ‘Police’ Camionette, 566, as to be launched during that year. In fact, the launch of the 1/50 scale model took place during July 1965, when the 117mm long van cost 14.5 new francs, about £1, 9/-. The price soon rose to 16.5 new francs, £1, 12/-. Fine detail characterises the model, which clearly demonstrates the vehicle’s extended bodywork produced by Currus for the Paris police. The model has a midnight blue, almost black, and white livery, with a dome flashing light and an orange illuminated ‘Police’ sign in a panel above the cab. The word ‘Police’ is on either side of the model above the rear wheels. The model has a two-tone horn, symmetrical sliding side doors and frosted glass throughout the rear compartment. The wheel hubs are concave, blue-black in colour and fitted with treaded tyres.

Currus, the vehicle body-maker, produced about 4-5 vehicles per day at its Massy-Palaiseau plant. In 1971, the company opened a second plant in Macon. However, with the 1973 oil crisis, business declined and chassis suppliers almost disappeared from the market. Heuliez took-over the company and later, Currus became part of Camiva, which became a subsidiary of Berliet. Currus became too dependent on work from Citroën, building vehicles based on their 350 chassis. The French Dinky Simca 1100 Police Car Introduced in 1977, French Dinky manufactured the SIMCA 1100 Police car in Spain, where it was designated 1450E. The 92mm length reflected that of the SIMCA 1100 Berline (saloon) 1407, introduced in 1968. The cost of the Police car, 18 new francs, about 18/-, some 6 francs above the standard Berline, reflected its plastic glass windows, suspension, opening engine and boot, matt green engine, black and white livery badged with POLICE on either side, blue light on the roof and its concave wheel hubs with treaded tyres. The model came with one of 7 number plates, white letters and numbers on a black background at both face and rear. French Dinky allocated the plate 7316 UG 75 to the French market, while 4212 BM 93 denoted models sold in Spain. Both box and vehicle recorded the place of manufacture as, Spain, although boxes for French versions also carried an additional sticker to show that these imported models complied with French law. French Dinky deleted the model in 1978.

The model of the SIMCA 1100 Police car was based on one of France’s most popular cars, with over 100,000 produced annually. In design from 1961-67, the SIMCA 1100 was France’s first front wheel drive vehicle. The car was road tested in Normandy and launched in Sardinia and at the Paris Motor Show in 1967. At this point, Chrysler Corporation, SIMCA’s new American owners chose to replace the traditional swallow logo with the Chrysler Pen-star and the 1100 was the first SIMCA vehicle to carry the new badge. Chrysler named the vehicle after its highly successful, Poissy-built 1118cc engine. The front-wheel drive hatchback came in a 3 and 5-door version, an estate car, and as 2 and 3 door vans. In no small measure, the vehicle’s success came from its innovative engineering, reflected in the use of disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, torsion-bar suspension and the provision of radial tyres. Together, these fittings made the SIMCA 1100 a remarkably advanced small family car and it is rumoured that Volkswagen studied the car when designing the VW Golf. SIMCA produced a number of sporty variants, which drew the attention of the French Police, who used it to patrol Europe’s busiest motorway, The Paris Peripherique.
