In May 1959 the price increased again to 11/-, and in May 1961 to 12/-, then a year later in May 1962 to 13/-.

The Dinky Ruston Bucyrus Excavator 1963 was the year of the giant excavator. In the Meccano magazine, June 1963, Bruce Mayne reported on the production and deployment of, at the time, the world’s largest excavator; a walking dragline, manufactured by Ransome-Rapier (Sheffield) later to become NCK-Rapier.

In the September edition, an advertisement focused on the October release of Dinky Toy’s Ruston Bucyrus (975) excavator.

The Ruston Bucyrus released in October,1963, had a length of 190mm (7.5”) and cost 27/6 (£1,7 shillings and 6 pence), rising to 28/- in 1966. The model had a primrose yellow plastic cab sat on a red platform and tracked base, with its black rubber tracks. The four control mechanisms are painted green. Additionally, a toggle pull at the rear allows the bucket to be emptied. The Ruston Bucyrus was withdrawn in 1966.

The actual excavator was manufactured in Lincoln by Ruston and Hornsby in collaboration with Bucyrus-Erie, from Milwarkee, hence Ruston Bucyrus. The excavator was powered by a Ruston-Paxman engine. The machine weighed 46.5 tons.The cables enabled a lifting capacity of over 33 tons.

The French Dinky Richier Road Grader Although French Dinky introduced the Richier Profileur 100 (886) into the range in November 1960, it was not until April 1961 that the French Meccano Magazine advertised the model. The 176mm long grader or road profiler had a front chassis width of 85mm, a rear chassis width of 60mm and a height of 90mm. The profiler blade, which could move through 180 degrees, also had width of 60mm. The model’s tyres were 27mm in diameter, the standard for large or heavy duty Supertoys. At the vehicles front, its wheels slightly pivoted on a vertical plane. The yellow chassis of the vehicle had grey-green seating, arm rests and engine and the driver has a blue overall. French Dinky withdrew the model in 1965.

In April 1961 the French Meccano magazine announced its “Big Competition”, with 2,500 new francs worth of prizes, based on the introduction of the Richier Profiler 100. The competition involved setting the profiler in a diorama with a range of other construction machinery represented by other French Dinky Toys. With a closing date of 15th January, 1962, the competition had 5 levels of prizes, with a first prize of Meccano, Hornby or Dinky models worth 500 new francs. At the 5th level, there were 30 prizes worth 50 new francs.

The real Richier Profileur 100 was 7.720 metres long, with a 3.8m front undercarriage, a 2.74m rear undercarriage and a height of 4m. Powered by a 100cv diesel engine, the unit weighed 11 tonnes and could move in forward and reverse at 4 speeds, with a normal running speed of 20km/h. The vehicle was capable of working in varied terrains, hollowing out and building embankments often on undressed surfaces.

At Neuville, St. Amand, south of St. Quentin, Richier construction machinery had its headquarters and main plant, with a second site at Charleville, near Mézières, in the Ardennes. Richier built a wide range of equipment, including bulldozers, compressors, road rollers and graders, under their own brand name. They also manufactured equipment for the Ford Motor Company, who bought-out Richier in 1972. The product range was modernised but by 1979, Ford decided to sell the Richier Company to SAMBRON, who moved all production to Charleville. The Euclid Company of Ohio was a manufacturer which specialized in heavy equipment for earthmoving. It operated in the US from the 1920s to the 1950s.

In August 1977, White sold Euclid, Inc., to Daimler Benz AG of Stuttgart / Germany. Then in January 1984 Daimler-Benz sold Euclid to one of Euclid’s former competitors, Clark Equipment Company, after which it became part of the Clark Michigan Company, as Clark’s construction machinery division was then called.

The Tekno Lift Truck There are two metal unpainted wheels that fully operate. Somewhat rare item. The steering turns the rear wheel; the side wheel, raises and lowers the platform. Probably issued 1946-56. available in red & black finish at 1:30 scale. Tekno in detail...

The Tekno Hyster Fork Lift It is a genuine ‘Hyster’ truck conforming to the ‘H80C’ model. It was complicated to build, given the lifting mechanism by means of sturdy chains (instead of simple strings as with Dinky Toys) and the product had to last a long time. It came out in the fall of 1963 and got a lot of attention from Tekno. It remained in production until 1969. There were quite a few commercials and advertisements in different places, so it was a product that Tekno proudly presented. There are two chains to raise the fork. The lifting mechanism itself consists of three parts. An external part, which is often painted yellow. The inner part is blank / unpainted. It has two inner grooves in which the inner movable part of the winch is guided. The fork is painted black. The model has never received a roll bar. The truck is 109 mm long, 34 / 39 mm wide and consists of 36 individual parts. This model had a blue-clad driver on the seat as standard.
