The Crescent Toys Ordnance QF 18 pdr Crescent Toys manufactured lead figures and animals, die cast metal vehicles, toy guns and later plastic figures and toy soldiers of various historical periods.

The mostly models have ‘wooden’ horsecar spike wheels and so are the Mk. 1 or Mk. 2 type. This miniature shows the modified Mk.2/type 1P which is used in Finland.

The three main real life producers were: Vickers, the Royal Ordnance Factories and Armstrong.

Was used in WW-I and (modified) in the ‘WinterWar’ (Finland – Russia in 1939/1940 *) by the Finnish Army.

It had a cal. 3.3 in / 83,8mm and a range of max 6525 y. / 10 km.

The Dinky Anti Aircraft Gun Renumbered in 1954. The base of the pre-war anti aircraft gun trailer was not solid but had a circular hole with a stretcher bar that had a hole in the centre. This was a weakness of the pre-war design. The post war version had a solid floor. The pre-war barrel mount had holes in the mount seats for fitting the die cast gunners. There must have been stocks of the gun barrel mount left over from pre-war days as there are models with early barrel mounts fitted to post war trailers. Later trailers had barrel mounts without holes in the seats. Post war Dinky Toys had a 2mm axle but the pre-war version had a slightly smaller diameter axle and can be a source of problems when refurbishing an early Dinky.

As the gun was a combination of the outline of a the British Army`s Bofors gun and a Binns Road designer`s concept, the model has no exact scale but is something like a 1:60th to 1:64th scale model. The lorry that pulled the gun however falls into the scale category of Fits the box as it is actually nearer to 1:62 scale. Other Military Dinkys ranged from 1:32nd scale right down to 1:64th scale. Some but not all of the Dinky Supertoys were nearer to 1:55th and 1:48th scales. Shown on the February 1961 Dinky price list for 3/3. May 1961 it was still 3/3 but in May 1962 it went up to 3/4, and again in January 1963 up to 3/5. Then in January 1964 to 3/11, and July 1966 up to 4/-, 1968 to 4/6, May 1969 5/3, and May 1970, the last year it appeared in a catalogue, the price had risen to 5/11 or 29.5p. With the Daimler Armoured Car in continuous production for 16 years, it joined the ranks of only a few Dinky Toys in production for such a long period of time.
