Karrier was a British marque of motorised light commercial vehicles manufactured at Karrier Works. The Corgi Commer Police Van Released in July 1963, there are a number of variations of this model with different markings and colours. It was fitted with a battery operated flashing light the flashing controlled by a cam on the front axle. A rare version was marked City Police. Feb 67 saw a revised version with much changed light that was no longer cam driven. This was marked Police and no longer had barred rear windows. A further modification was made some time later moving the roof light towards the front of the vehicle. The Dinky Trojan 15cwt Van Dunlop Second in the series of Trojan vans ('Esso', 1951; 'Dunlop', 1952) Dinky Toys introduced the 'Dunlop', 31b, model in the June, 1952, edition of the Meccano Magazine. The 3 3/8 inch long model had a purchase price of 2/11. Despite the popularity of the actual vehicle, the model was introduced without a fanfare, even though it did appear in the 1952 Dinky Toy catalogue. Dinky Toys launch, through the Meccano Magazine. In December 1954, when the van had been renumbered 452, the cost had risen to 2/6. The van's red livery carried an advertisement for 'Dunlop', a Birmingham-based manufacturer of tyres and other rubber products. The model had dark red ribbed hubs and smooth black tyres. The model was deleted in 1957.

The Trojan 15cwt van was manufactured by The Trojan Motor Company, at their Purley Way factory, Croydon, between 1947 and 1961, when the firm ceased business and the plant was turned over to assembling Lambretta scooters and Heinkel bubble cars. Originally, this popular van was powered by a 2.3 litre, 2-stroke petrol engine. The 2-stroke van struggled up the incline of the Purley Way, adjacent to Croydon Airport and was test-driven around The North Downs, at Westerham and Woldingham, on the Kent-Surrey border. But throughout the 1950s, it was powered by a more powerful Perkins P3V diesel engine.

'Dunlop' tyres is a brand name owned by the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Company. However it is also owned by the Ruia Group and Sumitomo in Africa and Asia. Since 1999, Goodyear and Sumitomo have collaborated over tyre production and this led to Goodyear ceasing tyre production in the UK from 2006, although they have maintained the manufacture of motorsport tyres at their original plant, 'Fort Dunlop', in Erdington, Birmingham.

The Dinky Trojan 15cwt Van 'Chivers' Third in the series of Trojan vans ('Esso', 1951; 'Dunlop', 1952) the 'Chivers' model, 31c was first advertised in the Meccano Magazine, during December 1953. The 3 3/8 inch long model of the popular Trojan 15cwt van had a proposed cost was 2/2, which was its price when launched in February 1954. In a relatively low-key launch, the Meccano Magazine included the Trojan 'Chivers' van in its Dinky Toys adverts throughout the autumn, although no price was given. In December 1954, when the van had been renumbered 452, the cost had risen to 2/6. The van's livery was in Ivy Green and carried a detailed advertisement for 'Chivers Jellies', a manufacturer of preserves, from Histon, Cambridgeshire. The model had Pea Green, ribbed hubs and smooth black tyres. Unusally, the drawing on the model's box was on its wider side. The model was deleted in 1957.

In 1873, farmer, Stephen Chivers, began making fruit jam and other preserves following the year's fruit glut. During 1889, he extended the product range by introducing 'Chivers Jellies'. Chivers and Sons Ltd, was sold to Schweppes and eventually, in 2004, to Premier Foods, who axed the Chivers brand in favour of their Hartley's jams and jellies.

The Dinky Dublo Royal Mail Van Released in April 1959 and advertised on the back of that months Meccano Magazine. The Royal Mail van was advertised as being just right to fit Hornby’s ‘OO’ gauge railway. With grey, moulded non-scratch, treaded wheels, the model sold for around 2/3. The model was also fitted with smooth grey and black wheels. The model was withdrawn in 1964.

Based on the Morris 6-8cwt van, manufactured between 1948 and 1971, this 1098cc vehicle was the workhorse of the Royal Mail throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. Morris Minor vans were more robust the cars, because they had a ‘Y’-shaped steel chassis and torsion bar suspension. In 1972, the last delivery of over 700 of these vans to Royal Mail took place.

The French Dinky Citroen 1200kg In 1959, French Dinky released the fifth in its series of Citroën H, 1200kg vans, which advertised CIBIE, the manufacturer of automobile headlights and spotlights. The 90mm long, 1/48 scale, turquoise model cost 325 old francs, about 6/6 and retained the familiar sliding side door for floor level loading. The ribbed, yellow, wheel had smooth black tyres. Citroën H vans had one of three types of internal bodywork: the earliest had smooth ceilings throughout; the second type had a chequered goods compartment and smooth ceiling in the cab; later models were chequered throughout. Being a later model, the Citroën, CIBIE, would be most likely chequered throughout. The baseplate for all variants described the model as 25C. Frequently sold in yellow boxes with a sticker attached to denote the CIBIE variant, French Dinky used the same strategy when the model was re-numbered 561. The model was withdrawn towards the end of 1959.

The Citroën H, TUB 1200kg van became popular because it had front-wheel drive, flat floor loading, an easily repairable body and the efficient engine from the famous Traction Avant 11cv car. The vehicle first appeared in 1939, but was re-designed, using the ‘H’ chassis, during the war years. The bodywork reflected the influence of German aircraft design, notably the Junkers 52 transport plane. The van also had Oléo pneumatic suspension. The French Dinky Simca Cargo Despite the advertisement in the 1955 French Dinky catalogue that the Simca Cargo truck would be a new arrival during April, the model went on sale virtually unannounced. The Meccano Magazine briefly acknowledged its introduction in the June edition of the magazine and the model only featured on the colourful back page in July. This amazingly low-key launch seriously underplayed the significance of a model and series of trucks intended to replace the out-dated 25 series, which was suffering falling sales. The old Ford ‘Poissy’, upon which the 25 series was based was itself being replaced by the revolutionary new Ford Cargo, which was soon to be re-named the Simca Cargo, when Ford-SAF sold its business to Simca.

When French Dinky Introduced the Simca Cargo truck, 33A, the 133mm long model cost an estimated 550 old francs, about 11/-. The trucks Olive Green cab and chassis had a citron-orange box body with two opening doors at the rear. This version of the truck had a shim with a spare tyre, but did not have the towing hook that appeared on the later Bailly Simca Cargo, 33AN. The wheel hubs were ribbed and convex and had large, black, smooth tyres. The Simca Cargo model sold in individual yellow boxes, which were subsequently used for the Bailly Simca Cargo, 33AN. The 33A model’s life was relatively short-lived, being withdrawn in favour of the Bailly Simca Cargo, in 1956.

Early in the 1950s, Ford extended and modernised its range of trucks and the Ford 5 tonnes was born. Its revolutionary design introduced the concept of the cab over engine, e-cab, which lies behind the look of numerous modern vehicles. In July 1954, Simca took-over the Ford operation and re-branded the vehicle. The truck had a V8 gasoline engine, producing 15HP. However, the gearbox was not synchronised and required the driver to double de-clutch and fuel consumption was 32 litres per 100 km at 50 km/h. From 1959, the Simca Cargo, now built at UNIC plants had a 4.2 litre V8 engine and a synchronised gearbox. The French army purchased over 14,000 of these vehicles, many of which were the later 4x4 model.

The French Dinky Citroen Currus Police Camionette The 1965 French Dinky catalogue introduced the Citroën Currus ‘Police’ Camionette, 566, as to be launched during that year. In fact, the launch of the 1/50 scale model took place during July 1965, when the 117mm long van cost 14.5 new francs, about £1, 9/-. The price soon rose to 16.5 new francs, £1, 12/-. Fine detail characterises the model, which clearly demonstrates the vehicle’s extended bodywork produced by Currus for the Paris police. The model has a midnight blue, almost black, and white livery, with a dome flashing light and an orange illuminated ‘Police’ sign in a panel above the cab. The word ‘Police’ is on either side of the model above the rear wheels. The model has a two-tone horn, symmetrical sliding side doors and frosted glass throughout the rear compartment. The wheel hubs are concave, blue-black in colour and fitted with treaded tyres.

Currus, the vehicle body-maker, produced about 4-5 vehicles per day at its Massy-Palaiseau plant. In 1971, the company opened a second plant in Macon. However, with the 1973 oil crisis, business declined and chassis suppliers almost disappeared from the market. Heuliez took-over the company and later, Currus became part of Camiva, which became a subsidiary of Berliet. Currus became too dependent on work from Citroën, building vehicles based on their 350 chassis. The French Dinky Peugeot J7 Van In 1967, after an eight year gap, French Dinky re-introduced model 570. The new model was not, however, an update of 570/1, the Somua Panhard Parisian bus, but the introduction of a new Peugeot J7 delivery van. Designated 570/2, the Peugeot J7 "Allo Fret" was 108mm long and cost Fr. 17 (new Francs). In the livery of "Allo Fret", a logistics company, the 570/2 version, introduced sliding doors, rear doors that opened and lifted, internal fittings, suspension and jewelled headlights. Its most distinctive feature was the blue plastic roof with an antenna, which was replaced by a white roof in the 1968 modification, 570/3. The model was withdrawn in 1971. Rare variants of the model include the orange, 570A, the Peugeot J7 "Autoroutes" and the 570P, the Peugeot J7 Pompiers. The French Dinky Camonnette Citroen 'Philips' Citroën Currus HY ‘Philips’ display van. Launched in late 1964, the Citroën Currus HY ‘Philips’display van, 587, appeared in the 1965 French Dinky catalogue. At a scale of 1:50, the 122mm long model cost 12 fr. (new francs), about £1, 4/-. The zamac body had plastic interior fittings and a tinplate base plate. The demonstrator van had lift up doors on the near side and at the rear, which exposed an interior normally behind clear plastic windows. The yellow-gold, red and silver colours were a trademark of the Dutch electrical manufacturer, ‘Philips’ during the 1960s. The Citroën HY model was based a long wheelbase version of the 1200kg van, with the extended bodywork, which in reality was produced by Currus.
