Released October 1955 with a price of 2/-, reduced to 1/9 by February 1956 a price that remained throughout its production until production was terminated in 1962. Advertised in the July 1958 Meccano Magazine.
In 1953, the real aircraft held the world absolute speed record, 737.7 mph or 1,187km/h. The pilot was Wing Commander Mike Lithgow and the record was held for 8 days. The squadrons: 2 (1956), 4, 56 (1954) and 79 were equipped with Swifts. The aircraft first flew in 1948, but less than 200 were built out of an initial order for 497. The Swift was built as a replacement for the Meteor, but had problems with abrupt pitching and the reheat not working at high altitudes. These problems led to the Swift being grounded for periods, notably after one fatal crash. The plane never really saw action, although it was stationed in Germany during the Cold War, with the Mark 6 used for photo reconnaissance. In short, the Swift was not very successful, was never required as the fall back aircraft for the slightly slower Hawker Hunter and was largely replaced by it.Cost 2/-. Dinky in detail...

The model had an opening left side (to put in a battery so the propeller can turn around), and a move able hook, plus white coloured space capsule with an opening door and yellow interior.
This version of the real [1:1] helicopter belongs to the German national marine. The markings “89+50” shows that it is stationed at ‘MFG-5 Bundesmarine Kiel-Holtenau’ (NFG = Marine Flieger Geschwader = Marine Air Squadron No. 5 in Kiel-H.) and they flew since 1970 with this type.
A (US-)space capsule – with two astronauts inside – from the 70's is a part of this model although Germany had no space program. The helicopter could pick up with a hook.

Dinky 804 Nord 2501 Noratlas
The Dinky Nord 2501 Noratlas
In July 1960, The French Meccano magazine commented, under the title, the reality of miniatures, that the French Air Force version of the Nord Noratlas represented the only aircraft introduced in 1959-60. Costing 5,75 Fr. (New Francs), about 11/6, the 116mm long model, with its 171mm wingspan, had aluminium-silver paintwork, with French roundels on the wings and twin fuselage booms, with tricolours mounted on the tail-fin rudders.
Designed by Jean Calvy, the aircraft was manufactured by the Sociète Nationale Constructeurs Aèronautiques and first flown in 1949. This popular medium-size transport plane was built to replace captured German Junkers 52 planes and US war-surplus C-47s. Favoured for dropping paratroops from its large, clamshell shaped rear cargo doors, the aircraft outperformed the American, Fairchild C-82 Packet. Powered by two Snecma-Bristol Hercules engines, the Noratlas could attain a maximum speed of 440 km/h. Despite its military successes, with about 425 built for the French, German, Greek, Portuguese and Israeli air forces, the aircraft was not so well-received in civilian, commercial aviation. The French Air force finally retired the aircraft in 1989. available in silver finish. Dinky in detail...

French Dinky 60B S.N.C.A.S.O. Vautour Bomber
The French Dinky S.N.C.A.S.O. Vautour Bomber
In 1957, the French Dinky catalogue announced the introduction of its new aviation series, 60A-E, with the “Vautour” (Vulture) designated model 60B. Strangely, the Meccano magazine identified the model as both the third and fourth in the series. The 1/190th scale of the ‘Vulture’ resulted in a length of 92mm and a wingspan of 80mm. In the silver-grey livery of the French Air Force, the model cost 235 old francs, about 4/8. In 1959, French Dinky renumbered the ‘Vulture’, 801, and updated identification of the manufacturer as, Sud-Aviation. The model was withdrawn in 1964.
Modelled on the Sud-Aviation 4050 B, they produced three variants of the ‘Vulture’ for the French Air Force; an all- weather fighter (N), a tactical support fighter (A) and the bomber (B). The French Air Force also envisaged a photo-reconnaissance version. The 15m length of the aircraft matched its 15m wingspan producing a weight of 15 tonnes, rising to 20.7 when armed. The SNECMA, twin, jet engines produced 3,500 kg of thrust and with the aircraft’s swept back wings enabled it to attain a take-off speed of 60m/s over a distance of 800m and super-sonic speeds around Mach 0.9 or 1100 km/h. The rate of climb enabled a ceiling height of 13,000m to be reached. On a servo-assisted, hydraulically retractable undercarriage, four sets of landing wheels could be raised and lowered by the pilot. Equipped with CSF radar and 4 canons, the aircraft could also be adapted to carry up to 300 rockets.Cost 235 old fr available in silver finish at 1:90 scale. French Dinky in detail...
French Dinky 60C Lockheed Super Constellation
The French Dinky Lockheed Super Constellation Newly introduced in November 1956 and featuring in the 1957 catalogue as 60C, the Lockheed Super G Constellation cost Fr.635 (old Francs). Silver throughout, the 181mm length of the dolphin-like fuselage distinguished this model, with its 197mm wing span. The wing shape had been modelled itself on the highly successful World War 2 fighter, the Lockheed P38J Lightning. The 40-seat airliner was the first to be fully pressurised and Air France took delivery of the first of five Super G Constellations in 1946. Operating on the Paris (Orly) - New York route, this piston-driven aircraft was made obsolete by the introduction of jet-power. Renumbered 892, the model was withdrawn in 1959.Cost Fr.635 available in silver finish. French Dinky in detail...
French Dinky 60D Sikorski S.58 Helicopter
The French Dinky Sikorski S.58 Helicopter
French Dinky introduced the fourth model in their aviation series during May, 1957. However, the Sikorsky S 58 helicopter, 60D, was only advertised in the Meccano magazine from June in the same year. 87mm diameter rotor-blades surmounted the aircraft’s 80 mm long cabin, decorated in the silver, white and blue livery of Sabena, the former Belgium national airline. The model cost 290 old francs, about 6/-. It was renumbered 802, in 1959, shortly before it was withdrawn.
Produced by Igor Sikorsky’s ‘United Technologies Corporation’, the Sikorsky S-58 was the last of its type, piston engine driven. Originally built for the US Navy, it first flew in 1954. Built under license in the UK by Westland Aircraft from 1958, it was known as the Wessex. Subsequent helicopters were powered by turbine engines.
Sabena, (Societé Anonye Belge d’ Exploitation de la Navigation Aérienne) was the Belgium national airline from 1923 -2001. The company specialised in long-haul flights to Africa, but used the Sikorsky S-58, between 1956-1963, to ferry passengers and freight between Brussels, Paris, Rotterdam, Bonn and other major cities in the region. In 2001, Sabena went into bankruptcy, following the demise of Swissair, who owed the Belgian carrier a considerable sum of money, estimated about £84 million. Parts of the business were taken over by SN Brussels Airlines, which subsequently merged with Virgin Express.Cost 290 old fr available in white finish. French Dinky in detail...
