The Dinky Bedford TK Crash Truck In April 1964, the Meccano magazine announced a new Dinky Bedford TK Crash Truck, numbered 434. At about 43/4 inches, 122mm, long and in the white and green livery of The Rank Organisation`s Motorway Services Division, the magazine advertised the new model at a cost of 7/11. The model sat alongside the metallic red and white `Auto Service` version already available. Many of the components of this model were used by French Dinky in their Berliet GAK dépannage, 589 and 589A, the chassis being clearly identified by the model number and the words `Crash Truck`. Model 434 was withdrawn in 1971.

During 1959, Bedford ceased production of their popular `S` type and replaced the vehicle with the new Bedford TK. Bedford produced two versions of the TK model with either an inline 4 or 6 cylinder petrol or diesel engine. The (4x4) military version became known as the Bedford TM.

The Rank Organisation, with its famous Gongman logo, actually struck by percussionist the late James Blades, largely engaged in film distribution. Its motorway services division managed and operated numerous functions at service areas across Britain. Designed by architects T.P. Bennett and Sons, their iconic service area, situated at Forton, near Lancaster, distinguished itself with a Gerry Anderson, `Thunderbirds` style restaurant and viewing platform at the top of a hexagonal tower. The Dinky Pullmore Car Transporter Released in May 1953 at a price of 14/6. The first version is easily identifiable as it has six rivets (three on each side) holding the trailer together. This was soon modified with the centre rivet being deleted and the remainder enlarged. This occurred in about late June, early July 1953. This example No 982 Came in a blue striped Dinky Supertoy box complete with a loading ramp in a sleeve marked 994 Loading Ramp which was marked 794. The model was renumbered 982 in January 1954 and windows were added in early 1961. The Pullmore Car Transporter made its last appearance in the July 1963 catalogue, and was deleted from production by the middle of that year. The Dinky Bedford 3-Ton Army Truck Released June 1954 for 4/9. In September 1954 the price rose to 5/3 then in April 1958 dropped to 4/11. In May 1958 the price was 5/3 and again in August 1958 it dropped back to 4/11, by May 1959 the price had dropped another penny to 4/10. In 1961 windows were fitted and the price was revised to 5/6 (Shown on the February 1961 Dinky price list) where it remained until the last catalogue appearance in July 1963. The box shown, without picture was used during the first year in conjunction with the pictorial box. Marked with Royal Armoured Corp. transfers front and rear. The Dinky Army Covered Wagon The first production of this popular model was without a driver, released in March 1954 with a price of 3/7. This price remained constant until June 1955 when it was increased to 4/-. Another increase occurred in April 1956 to 4/3, which dropped to 4/2 in May 1959. Shown on the February 1961 Dinky price list for 4/6. In May 1961 it was still 4/6, and a year later it went up to 4/8.

The Covered Wagon made its last appearance in the May 1962 catalogue, and had been deleted by the end of that year. It was based on the World War II Bedford 3-ton QL truck which was the most common British-made 4x4 truck for British Forces between 1941 and 1945. It had a Royal Armoured Corps sign at the front and rear and a driver.

The Dinky Dublo Bedford Flat Truck This truck was one of the first Dinky Dublo's introduced in December 1957 and shown on the back of that months Meccano Magazine. Designed to carry Hornby containers. advertised in the June 1959 Meccano Magazine. Advertised in the August 1958 Meccano Magazine for 2/-.

The significance of the Bedford flat truck to the initial launch cannot be over-emphasised, because its flat-bed matched the scale and size necessary to fit the detachable freight container of a D1 low-sided wagon of a Hornby train set. The one piece casting, which made-up the Bedford lorry came only in grey, with smooth grey tyres. Later versions had treaded tyres and some had a hook at the rear. The model was withdrawn in 1966.

Dinky based their model on the Bedford D series, 5 ton, long wheelbase truck, which had a 4,927 cc Bedford diesel engine. In 1957, the actual lorry cost around 1,370 GBP excluding tax.

The Dinky Dublo Bedford Articulated Flat Truck released in June 1959 and illustrated on the back cover of that months Meccano Magazine. Sold until 1964.
