The French Dinky Renault Floride. This Renault Floride, first appeared in the 1960 catalogue. Two years earlier, Renault unveiled the car itself as the Dauphine GT, at the Geneva Motor show, but by October 1958, at the Paris Motor show, they had re-badged it as the Floride, only to change the name, again, when the car sold in Britain and the USA. The car became the Caravelle said to avoid alienating buyers in Florida. The 97mm long model had window glass, suspension and spun hubs, but no internal fittings. Renault realised that a beautiful woman, like film-star Brigitte Bardot, photographed with their vehicle would associate her with a beautiful car. Photographing her in St. Tropez, posed on the Renault Floride ensured that internationally the car became a motoring icon. Fr.365 (old Francs), about 7/6, seems to be a realistic estimate of the original price, which was not specified in catalogues. The original price was Fr.365 . It was available in gold finish. Released as French Dinky 543 in 1960 withdrawn as French Dinky 543 in 1963.
