The Road Rover project
by Kees D

The Landrover company had an idea around 1952 to make a new car but it took a long time to develop. Several protoypes were made, but only in October 1958 a car would be shown called the Road Rover.

The company contacted Corgi Toys to do a model simultaneously. (this is all in the van Cleemput book). I read somewhere six prototypes, only the body, not the base, were made but at last instant the project was cancelled due to various reasons. Two main reasons were that the project took to long, other cars would be more up to date, and the car could be a competitor to....the Landrover! The Corgi book shows a picture of a model and even a box. It was given number 212. As the real car was not produced, the model wasn't either, and the number was never used.

I decided to make the model, basicly out of scrap metal and plaster, wood and leftover plastics. It was abour four years on the workbench before I was satisfied and I could place it in my collection. A friend of mine developed the box.
