The Corgi Qualitoys Turbine Tanker. The Qualitoys Turbine Truck series by Corgi Toys.

In 1969 Corgi came out with this series specially for very young kids. These models – scale 1:50 – were very sturdy and simple.

They are a fantasy futuristic trucks with turbine engines, hence their name.

The cabs and chassis look the same for all of them, but besides the cabs, the chassis are all different at the rear axle area. Although seemingly simple in construction, they might not be so easy to disassemble.

Besides the usual rivets there are several crimp connections to attach the axles and front of the cab.

Seven models {exclude eventual trailer (seen by Q701 + Q707 + ??)} are listed: On the blister-boxes stand be reads the name ‘Qualitytoys’ and the type of the specific car along with ‘Made in Gr. Britain by the makers of Corgi Toys’ , and …… ‘safe, rust-proof, heavy die-cast, metal model with pneumatic tyres’.

Of course, all models were available in many varieties of colour combinations.

All in all, a very interesting range, not very collectable as of yet, but when you see them together, they are pretty neat, I think.

They just seem the forgotten child in the Corgi range, but worth another look.

Small boys are likeley to have enjoyed this unusual series of toys. It was finished in orange & white & green at 1:36 scale. Released as Corgi Qualitoys Q709 in 1969
