The Dinky Manchester Guardian Delivery Van. In 1934, Dinky toys launched series 28, a collection of delivery vans, which were first illustrated in the 1935 catalogue. Originally, they were sold in two sets of six vehicles, each costing 6d, the sets cost 3 shillings. By 1936, the vans sold as part of four sets, with the same price structure. The Manchester Guardian van featured in set 28/1. During the period, 1934-1940, Dinky produced three different castings of the model; first as 22d; second with a Ford body; and finally, as a Bedford van. The first iteration was painted dark green, although it also appeared in red, along with those of castings two and three. Pre-war versions had white tyres, while post-war model had black. The 28 series did not feature in the 1939 catalogue and the Guardian van appeared as only a one line reference in 1946. The exact date of withdrawal remains unclear. It was available in red finish.
